RE: A few observations from Myrtle Beach

Another observation we noted on our trip in mid-July was the decrease in the amount of traffic. Usually there are terrible traffic jams this time of year. It seemed as thought the traffic was much lighter. Guess there is some truth to the increase in staycations.

RE: Waterfront Camping, Maine to SC, close to Atlantic Coast

In SC, Hunting Island SP outside of Beaufort is very beautiful/sub-tropical and very secluded. A little further north is Edisto Beach SP another nice beach park in an area that is fairly undeveloped. Huntington Beach SP is in Murrell's Inlet. It is closer to the busy grandstrand but still in a fairly undeveloped area. It has some sites w/FHU. In Myrtle Beach you have Myrtle Beach SP. The park is on the beach, but the sites are a hefty walk from the beach. Also in MB there are several ocean front private CG's: Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, and Pirateland (on the south end) and MB Travel Resort (on the north end). These private CG's are all pretty similar with lots of amenities. Hope this helps.

RE: Campground I95 Gerogia

We have stayed at both Country Oaks and Blythe Island. Would stay at both again, but would probably chose Blythe Island over CO because it is more natural and cheaper even w/FHU and cable.

RE: Myrtle Beach State Park...

So glad you folks liked MBSP. It is one of our favorites. It is like being in the middle of nowhere while your really in the middle of everywhere. You should try our other beach SP's as well. Huntington Beach is nice, and the sites are closer to the beach. Edisto Beach has a quaintness to it that we really enjoy. Hunting Island is almost subtropical in nature.

RE: Best Restaurants in Charleston Area

Try The Fat Hen on John's Island for a great evening meal or Sunday brunch. YOu'd probably better get ressies. We ate their with some extended family (locals), and it was fabulous. We also discovered Gaulard & Maliclet (not sure about my spelling but it is also called Fast and French). It is located DT on Broad Street. We had lunch there it was very quirky, very good, and very reasonable. Enjoy!

RE: Hey campers in SC

I think it is the location. We were at Lee over Easter '07, and it was practically empty. Hope you ate at Mr. B's yum-yum. It would be worth the drive from Columbia for Sunday dinner!

RE: Devils Fork St Park, SC

Definitely worth a trip. While most SC state parks don't have huge sites, you can count on the reservation website to be accurate with site length. We have taken our 34 ft 5ver up to DF 3 times with no problem. Just book in advance. It is a great park. Make sure to pick up a waterfall guide from the office and check out some of the local falls.

RE: Cedar Key, FL

Definitely worth a day trip if nothing else. We drove out there from Manatee Springs SP for a brief look and dinner. Would love to go back with some more time for exploration. Agree with the earlier poster. It is not "nice". But it is quaint and charming with great seafood.

RE: Campgrounds and attractions for Georgia & Florida?

We stayed at Blythe Island regional park outside of Brunswick and loved it. Easy access to 95, county park w/full HU and cable, very close to sea islands.
I would definitely try to hit some of the FL state parks with springs that have swimming/tubing on your route.
Sounds like a great trip.

RE: Dining at Disney

I agree with the Whispering Canyon. It is a lot of fun, but be prepared to be the butt of a lot of jokes...and be careful asking for catsup or straws!
I would also suggest Ohana at the Polynesian. It is not "The Luau", but it is Polynesian style BBQ (hope you like meat) served "family style". They do have entertainment in the form of singers that invite audience participation.
Both of these places would be most fun for an evening meal.
I know you said you weren't really interested in char. meals. However, if your kids are wanting autographs we found the char meals were the way to go. Autograph lines can be sooooo long in the parks.
I don't know if it has already been mentioned, but make sure to go to guest services and ask for anniversary pins. All the "cast members" will make a big fuss over you. There is also a cakeline you can call (get the # from dining services) if you want a custom cake for your big night out. There is an entire thread on this at disboards.
Have a blast! I'm jealous!

RE: myrtlebeach camping

We like both for different reasons. I like the fact that PL has covered picnic tables on their beach section sites. I also like that they have a lazy river and lots of kid friendly activities. PL is a lot smaller than OL, easier to navigate, and has fewer permanent sites. OL has way more paved sites and does not seem to be as $ hungry as PL. At OL you can bring your own golf cart...not so with PL. YOu must rent to the tune of $50/day in season. My experiences with the staff at OL has been more positive than with PL. They seem to be more willing to accommodate their guests.

RE: 1 More Week!!!! Then its off to Charleston!!!!!

Will be there with scpopupcamper. Yeehaw. The aquarium downtown is pretty good. The Hunley is interesting. Just walking/shopping downtown. If you want awesome desserts try Kaminskis. For upscale dining, Garibaldi's, or the Boathouse on Sullivan's Island.

RE: Site-seeing near Anderson South Carolina

The Old Stone Church in Clemson is interesting. Also if you go to Clemson head over to the AG center to buy Clemson Blue Cheese and ice cream.
Ditto on Oconee SP, Isaqueena Falls, and Stumphouse Tunnel (they are all in close proximity of each other). If you go up that way you also might be interested in checking out the Wallhalla Fish Hatchery and the Chatooga River.
A little more north east of Anderson you can go to Oconee Station Historic Site where there is an easy .5 mile hike to Station Cove Falls and old Cherokee Outpost buildings dating back to the 1700's.

RE: Disney Fort Wilderness - Breakfast & Dining Plan Questions

We did the dining plan the last time we went, and I'm glad we did. I did a lot of research prior to the trip and made ressies at restaurants we probably wouldn't have tried otherwise. That being said, it has changed since we went (10/07), and I'm not sure I would do it again with the changes. Ditto the previous poster regarding ressies especially at the more popular restaurants. Another poster mentioned free dining in Aug and Sept, but I don't think you qualify for it if you are staying at FW. Another great resource for planning your trip is Tourguide Mike. Have fun planning and feel free to PM me if I can answer any ?'s.

RE: Ft. Wilderness, Loop # ?

We were in the 1000 loop (which is not a preferred loop), and it was great. It is in the middle of the CG so you are very close to the Trading post/pool/canoeing/bike barn. Also, the internal bus stopped right in front of our loop.

FW is great. TGM is a fee site, but I have posted many times that is was the best 20$ I could have spent to get ready for WDW. He was way more informative than the Unofficial Guide or other books, and his info is very current. Happy planning, and have a great trip.

RE: Hilton Head (things to do??)

Ditto on Hudson's. You are not too far from Hunting Island SP in Beaufort, SC. They have great trails and places to kayak. The town of Beaufort is pretty and historically rich. There is pretty good shopping on HH.
